Austria Pilot

The Austrian Cross-Border pilot is a strategic initiative aimed at establishing a robust electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) framework for secure and interoperable data exchange among pilot participants—initially including eFT4EU Member States. This pilot addresses the challenges of implementing an eFTI exchange environment by testing the lifecycle of mandatory components to ensure compliance with European and national regulations. With a focus on overcoming data exchange barriers and enhancing cross-border collaboration, the initiative is set to provide invaluable insights for optimizing internal procedures and the overall effectiveness of future eFTI environments.

Cross Border Interoperability Test Pilot

Purpose of the pilot is to address the challenges associated with implementing the eFTI exchange environment among the pilot participants by implementing a standardized, secure and interoperable IT infrastructure derived from legal frameworks, guidelines and national efforts. This initiative seeks to eliminate barriers to collaboration, streamline cross-border operations and enhance the overall effectiveness of the systems put in place to enable the desired exchange.

Results

We successfully tested electronic freight information (eFTI) in a cross-border pilot between Austria and Italy on June 26, 2025. A truck driver transported goods using digital freight data. Both Austrian and Italian authorities were able to verify the transport via QR codes and CA User Apps, proving the feasibility and interoperability of the whole eFTI system. This marks an important step toward more efficient and paperless freight transport in Europe.
