The eFTI4EU project has reached a key milestone with the launch of Reference Implementation Release 0.5, the first public version of an open-source, regulation-aligned authority system designed to support EU Member States in implementing digital freight information exchange.
This release provides a functional framework that helps authorities and stakeholders understand how the eFTI ecosystem can operate in practice. Developed in accordance with the latest regulatory framework, it serves as a foundation for future national implementations.
What is the Reference Implementation?
The reference implementation is a shared, functional system that demonstrates how an eFTI authority system can work in real-world conditions. It is:
- A functional system with shared code
- Aligned with the latest eFTI regulatory framework
- Open-source, making it accessible for stakeholders
- A key deliverable of the eFTI4EU project
However, it is important to note what this release is not:
- It does not include customized versions with project-specific modifications
- It is not ready for direct production use
- It does not represent a fully developed national implementation
What’s included in Release 0.5?
This first release introduces several core functionalities, including:
- Electronic Delivery Gate-to-Gate (Proof of Concept)
- Search and Identifiers – system interfaces
- Application Log (Initial Version)
- Registry of Identifiers
- Interface to the Access and Authentication Provider
- Competent Authority Application Mockup
- Documentation, including:
- General Guide (Deliverable 2.2 + GitHub)
- Technical Documentation on GitHub
- Open-source code repository
Next Steps
The development of the reference implementation will continue, with Version 0.9 planned for release in December 2025. This future update will introduce additional functionalities and further refinements to the system.
How to Use the Reference Implementation
To make the system operational at the national level, stakeholders will need:
- A running platform tailored to their environment
- An implementer to set up the system
- A maintenance team to keep it running
- Configuration to align with national regulatory requirements
