On 4 December 2025, the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport hosted the fifth national event dedicated to the eFTI4EU Project at its headquarters in Rome. Organised together with RAM SpA and Circle Group, the meeting focused on the first results of the project and the national pathway toward implementing the eFTI Regulation within Italy’s digital logistics ecosystem.
The event opened with an in-depth overview of the Implementing Acts of the European Commission, delivered by representatives of the Ministry’s key departments, including the Directorate-General for Road Safety and Road Transport, the Directorate-General for Ports, Logistics and Intermodality Division 3, and contributions from Vincenzo Corbi (MIT) and RAM S.p.A.
A dedicated session explored the current state of digitalisation of road transport documents in Italy, with a particular focus on eFTI and eCMR and the sector’s preparation for the July 2027 deadline. This analysis was presented by Luca Zanetta (Uniontrasporti), Project Manager for ultrabroadband and 5G initiatives.

Further presentations reviewed the progress of the eFTI4EU project, including the first results and upcoming actions outlined by Roberto Mencarelli (RAM), the Italian pilot activities and next steps illustrated by Luca Abatello (Circle Group), national approaches to applying the eFTI Regulation presented by Luca Pentrella (MIT), and an intervention from the Italian State Police on access to eFTI data and verification of compliance in international freight transport.
A highlight of the programme was the roundtable session “eFTI and eCMR: How the Freight Sector Is Preparing for July 2027”, moderated by Michelangelo Chinni (RAM). The discussion brought together representatives from major national logistics associations and operators, including:
- Oliviero Giannotti (Assoporti)
- Cristiano Ruffini (UIR)
- Renato Imbruglia (Conftrasporto)
- Simone Ianniello (Confetra/Fedespedi)
- Margherita Palladino (Federtrasporto)
Speakers assessed the operational, technological and organisational challenges the sector faces as it transitions to digital freight information, as well as the opportunities offered by interoperable digital tools.
Promoted by RAM in support of the Ministry’s preparations for the 2027 implementation deadline, the event attracted a broad audience of experts and stakeholders. It served as a key platform to examine Italy’s readiness, share national experiences, and reinforce collaboration across the logistics ecosystem as eFTI becomes an operational reality.
