Portugal Pilot

In Portugal, IMT is working together with the competent authorities (including police forces) and stakeholders (including road and rail transport and logistics companies) to launch an eFTI pilot project in the second half of 2025. This pilot project will use an eFTI Gate prototype and an emulated eFTI platform to test issues related to connectivity, compliance, user-friendliness and cybersecurity.

Based on the lessons learnt from the initial (virtual) tests, a real pilot project will follow later this year (i.e. with a real vehicle being stopped by the police to check cargo documents). Cross-border tests will follow. The kick-off meeting for the pilot project took place in February 2025, after months of preparatory work, including stakeholder participation. The results of the pilot project will be crucial for the full development of the Portuguese eFTI Gate in 2026.

eFTI LOG – PT

The port of Sines is Portugal’s main container and energy supply port, and is one of the main gateways for cargo entering Europe from North and South America, as well as West Africa. The area surrounding the port is buzzing with many transport and logistics operators who are interested in having full digitalisation and interoperability to enhance  their businesses. Naturally, it’s a perfect place to test innovation projects like eFTI4EU. The Portuguese pilot project will bring together both authorities and real logistics and transport companies to develop and test the main components of eFTI in a real multimodal and multiauthority environment, with a view to cross-border connections.

Objectives

  • To test the interoperability of systems and technologies in real world.
  • To test the system in a multimodal environment.
  • To strenghten the connection between B2B, B2G.
  • To check for potential improvements or problems before full-scale implementation.

Technical components

  • eFTI Gate Prototype
  • eFTI Platform emulator
