On 23 June 2025, Austria held a national webinar titled “eFTI – AKTUELL” (che vuol dire?), offering a timely update on the status of the electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) Regulation both at the EU level and within Austria. The event was organised by three key Austrian institutions involved in the national implementation of eFTI: the Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK), ASFINAG, and SCHIG.
The webinar, part of Austria’s contribution to the eFTI4EU project, provided transport professionals, logistics stakeholders, and public sector representatives with a clear picture of how the eFTI Regulation is being adopted across Europe and what concrete steps are being taken in Austria to ensure national alignment.
The session opened with welcoming remarks from Franz Schwammenhöfer (BMK), Ralf Fischer (ASFINAG), and Rudi Sebastnik (SCHIG), who each shared insights into the relevance of eFTI from the perspectives of public administration, infrastructure management, and implementation support.
Speakers explained the core principles and structure of the eFTI Regulation, the objectives of the eFTI4EU project, and how Austria is progressing with its national implementation strategy. The discussion highlighted how digitalising freight transport information is not only a regulatory requirement but also a practical step toward making transport in Europe more efficient, transparent, and sustainable.
Participants learned about Austria’s role in testing and rolling out eFTI systems, including the ongoing work to develop national infrastructure and align procedures with EU-wide standards. The webinar also underlined the importance of cooperation between Member States and the role of national authorities and infrastructure providers in facilitating the digital transformation of logistics.
The event showed that Austria is not just keeping pace with the Regulation, but actively contributing to shaping its implementation through national pilots and cross-border collaboration.
