On 6 November 2025, digital transformation in logistics took centre stage in Helsinki, where CaaS Nordic participated in DigiLog4 – Advancing Digital Logistics Together. The annual event, organised in collaboration with Traficom, ITS Finland, LOGY and Limowa, brought together experts and decision-makers from business, research, and public administration to explore how digitalisation, automation, and data-driven innovation are shaping the future of logistics in Finland and the wider Baltic Sea region.

This year’s theme — “Logistics Digitalisation and Success Stories” — captured the spirit of progress. Rather than focusing on theory, DigiLog4 showcased real examples of how companies and institutions are implementing new technologies to make logistics more efficient, transparent, and resilient. Among the highlights of the programme was the strong presence of the eFTI4EU project, an EU-funded initiative supporting the implementation of the eFTI Regulation across Europe.

By featuring discussions and pilots connected to eFTI, the event reinforced the importance of digital freight data exchange for the entire logistics chain — from large-scale operators to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The project’s activities in Finland are coordinated by CaaS Nordic, which plays a central role in promoting digital freight solutions and ensuring that national developments align with EU standards.

Teemu Heikura (Fintraffic) presented the upcoming eFTI regulation and Finland’s progress toward creating a national eFTI Gate for digital freight data exchange.

Throughout the day, participants shared practical insights and success stories illustrating the transition toward digital freight management. Teemu Heikura from Fintraffic presented the upcoming EU eFTI Regulation and Finland’s progress toward developing a national eFTI Gate — a system enabling seamless digital exchange of freight transport information between businesses and authorities. He encouraged logistics stakeholders to start their digital transition now, reminding them that the Regulation’s implementation deadline in 2027 is approaching fast.

Furthermore, Riku Ilomäki of Flowertrucks presented the company’s SME eFTI pilot project, developed within the framework of the eFTI4EU initiative. His presentation demonstrated how smaller transport companies can effectively adopt digital freight documentation through cooperation with larger actors and public bodies. This pilot exemplifies the project’s mission to make digitalisation accessible to all logistics operators, regardless of size or resources.

Adding a cross-border dimension, Jan Bergstrand from Trafikverket (Swedish Transport Administration) brought a Nordic perspective to the discussion. He underlined the crucial importance of harmonised standards and international cooperation among authorities and businesses to make digital freight truly interoperable. The Swedish-Finnish dialogue within eFTI4EU reflects a broader European ambition: to ensure that digital transport information can move freely and securely across borders, reducing administrative burdens and supporting the green transition.

For the eFTI4EU project, DigiLog4 was more than just a showcase — it was a concrete step toward building a stronger European logistics ecosystem. By connecting policy, technology, and practice, the event illustrated how national initiatives contribute to the shared European goal of digital-by-default freight transport documentation.

Through CaaS Nordic’s participation, eFTI4EU was able to reach a broad Finnish audience — including policymakers, logistics providers, tech companies, and researchers — and to foster dialogue on how to make the digital shift both feasible and beneficial for everyone involved in the logistics chain.
