On September 9, 2025, near the Estonia-Latvia border, the eFTI4EU Project marked a remarkable achievement with the first real-time cross-border digital freight information control in Europe. Organized within the Baltic Transport Corridor pilot initiative, this event brought together the Estonian Digital Logistics Center of Excellence (Digilogistika Keskus) and Latvian organisations WeAreDots and the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), testing a pioneering solution that elevates freight transport digitalization across international borders.

The demonstration showcased, for the first time, the practical and coordinated use of all eFTI Regulation components—including eFTI gates, digital platforms, APIs, and authority applications—in live operational conditions. An actual shipment and truck were utilized, with active participation from border authorities, illustrating the power and readiness of digital logistics systems in real-world settings.

This breakthrough means that freight information can now flow digitally and securely from sender ERP systems directly to national authorities, removing the need for paper documentation at border crossings. Controls are performed faster and more accurately, and logistics operations gain in sustainability through digitization, reducing environmental impact and administrative barriers.

Throughout the event, project teams and stakeholders discussed the current status of eFTI regulation, presented technical solutions, and gave attendees a hands-on demonstration of seamless cross-border data exchange. The pilot also offered valuable insights into technical challenges and identified bottlenecks to be addressed in the eFTI architecture, supporting more efficient organization, swifter border procedures, and improved supervisory control.

The eFTI4EU Project continues to demonstrate its commitment to driving collaboration, innovation, and excellence in digital freight transport. This successful cross-border pilot reinforces the project’s vision for a harmonized and future-ready European logistics ecosystem, built on trust, efficiency, and technological progress.
