On November 20 2024, DigiLog 3 took place in Helsinki, bringing together Finnish and international experts to explore the concept of a triple transition in logistics: resilience, digitalization, and sustainability. The event was jointly organized by Traficom, eFTI4EU project, the CaaS Nordic association, ITS Finland, and LIMOWA, with Lasse Nykänen (Vediafi) serving as moderator.
After the opening remarks from the host association, the spotlight of the event was pointed on the progress of the Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) implementation. Teemu Heikura from Fintraffic presented an update on the eFTI4EU project, emphasizing a historic milestone reached in November: the integration of the project’s reference implementation, the eFTI Gate, with Finland’s and France’s eFTI platforms during the Testfest held in Estonia. This achievement demonstrates the potential of eFTI to enhance interoperability among EU Member States and unlock new opportunities for economic operators.
Following Heikura, Ollipekka Mäkitalo of Finnish Customs highlighted the agency’s renewed focus on public-private partnerships (PPP) to address the challenges facing the logistics sector. Finally, Ilona Torniainen from the Finnish Defence Forces concluded the authority session with a presentation on NATO logistics, thus underlining the importance of resilience and preparedness in meeting future demands. All three presentations stressed the critical role of public-private collaboration in strengthening the logistics ecosystem.
The DigiLog seminar featured also a live demo session in which association members had the opportunity to showcase their digital solutions for logistics through live demos. The demo session, held during the welcome coffee and breaks, featured solutions from GoSwift, iToDEV, Digilogistika Keskus, and Vediafi, all of which supported eFTI development. The interactive demos were well-received, adding an engaging element to the day’s agenda.
The event concluded with a lively panel discussion summarizing the day’s key takeaways and providing a platform for participants to exchange ideas. The panel, moderated by Matti Lankinen (Vediafi), included experts such as Sarah Schiffling (Hanken), Jan Bergstrand (Trafikverket), Heiti Mering (Digilogistika Keskus / eFTI EXPERTS), Rugile Andziukeviciute (TIA), Satu Orava (Telia) and Janne Huhtamäki (Traficom). The participants discussed about the actions that their organisations have done and are about to do to meet resilience requirements.
DigiLog 3 highlighted the importance of initiatives like eFTI4EU in driving the digital and sustainable transformation of logistics in Europe. As Traficom’s Janne Huhtamäki put it, “We believe in strong co-operation and sharing best practices between authorities, companies and other stakeholders to get the greatest benefits from digitalization in a resilient way.” The event underscored that the synergy between public policies, private innovation, and collaborative projects is the key to meeting the challenges of tomorrow.
