On July 17, 2024, representatives from the eFTI4EU Project Consortium participated to a webinar held in collaboration with DG Move and the Single European Digital Enforcement Area (SEDEA) project team. The aim of this online discussion was to promote the sharing of knowledge and suggestions about the most effective ways to use electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI) data for digital enforcement.
The discussion focused on improving oversight and management of EU road transport regulations using eFTI data. In this context, the presentation of the eFTI4EU project served the purpose of illustrating the state of the art of activities, and their importance in making eFTI regulation effective.
Launched by DG MOVE in 2023, the Single European Digital Enforcement Area (SEDEA) is an initiative aimed at handling the difficulties associated with enforcing and monitoring adherence to EU traffic laws. Effective enforcement procedures are essential due to the extremely mobile nature of the road transport industry and the growing complexity of its regulations. The main goal of SEDEA is to provide a technological and legal framework that takes use of new and developing digitalization, automation, and communication technologies.
The application of best practices and lessons learned from creating the eFTI ecosystem to the SEDEA initiative was another important issue tackled by the participants. Speakers from both initiatives’ teams acknowledged that there is a great chance for synergies with existing EU digitalization activities, which brought the workshop to a successful conclusion. These programs not only achieve their initial goals but also offer long-term advantages including improved compliance effectiveness and enforcement procedures. Above all, that he debate emerged from this session made clear that building a strong foundation for digital enforcement requires cooperation, standardization, and the integration of developing technologies.
The discussion emphasized how crucial it is to keep working together and being innovative in order to shape the future of digital enforcement in the EU transportation industry. Besides each project’s representative, DG MOVE officials, as the contracting authorities of SEDEA, made a substantial contribution to the conversation on eFTI during the webinar by offering insightful observations and inputs on the subject.
