How will freight transport inspections work in the digital age?
A new video released by our partner IMT – Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes takes a closer look at the Portuguese eFTI pilot, showing how electronic freight transport information can support more efficient, secure and transparent controls in real-life conditions.
Developed within the framework of eFTI4EU, the pilot allowed Portuguese stakeholders to test how freight transport data can be accessed electronically by competent authorities, reducing reliance on paper documents and enabling faster and more reliable information exchange.
The initiative represents an important step in Portugal’s preparations for the implementation of the National eFTI Portal and for the application of the eFTI Regulation from 9 July 2027. From that date, competent authorities across the European Union will be required to accept regulatory freight transport information made available electronically through certified eFTI platforms.
The Portuguese pilot also demonstrates the wider potential of eFTI to strengthen interoperability between economic operators, authorities and digital platforms, while helping simplify administrative procedures and improve the overall efficiency of freight transport operations.
By testing solutions in real operational environments, initiatives such as this provide valuable experience for the continued development and deployment of the European eFTI ecosystem.
